Frequently Asked Questions

Permanent Makeup

  • It’s hard to speak for everyone as some have very high pain tolerances and some have low. However, most rate it as a 3 on a pain scale of 1-10 or compare it to a sun burn. It is not comparable to a “body” tattoo.

Cosmetic tattoo differs from “body” tattooing by depth and technique. The goal is to gently implant pigment into the very top layer of the dermis, which is not nearly as traumatic as a regular tattoo. We also use plenty of topical numbing anesthetic throughout the entire service.

  • Although each body heals differently, depending on lifestyle (i.e. sun exposure, aging, skin condition, lip filler, skin care regimen, etc.) cosmetic tattoo services can last 1-3 years once healed.

  • Depending on the service, please plan for 2-4 hours.

  • For final results, you will need an initial appointment and a touch up. Once healed, it is recommended to receive a color boost every 1-2 years.

  • If any of the following applies to you, you are not a good candidate for cosmetic tattooing:

    • The use of Accutane in the past 12 months

    • The use of blood thinners 24 hours prior to the appointment. This includes caffeine, alcohol, ibuprofen, aspirin and certain medications

    • Pregnant or nursing mothers

    • Heart disease

    • Epilepsy

    • Diabetes

    • The use of retinol products 1 month prior to the appointment

    • Receiving botox or filler 1 month prior to the appointment

    • If you are under the age of 18

    • If you suffer from cold sores, please consult your doctor about preventive options before receiving a cosmetic tattoo

  • To help your artist maintain their focus we suggest:

-refraining from using/looking at your phone during the service

-asking all questions before the tattoo starts

-saving conversation for breaks and end of service

    -following all pre care instructions

Fine Line Tattoo

  • Fine-line tattoos use small needle configurations to create thin, highly-detailed pieces. Although often referred to as “tiny” or “micro” tattoos, they can be done on both a large and small scale.

  • Yes, but we highly encourage researching the healed results. Ink on the hands and fingers generally require several touchups to achieve the desired retention. This is due to the amount of exposure to moisture that these areas undergo. Please keep this in mind when booking hand and finger appointments.

  • Do not consume either at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Caffeine and alcohol affect the bodies normal clotting ability which may result in excessive bleeding. Extra blood at the sight of the procedure will effect the artists ability to perform the service and the bodies ability to properly heal.

  • Since fine line tattoos are designed to be delicate and thin, they can be more susceptible to disruption during the healing process. This is why Salt + Light offers a complimentary touchup on all fine line tattoos. Design, placement, skin type and aftercare will also play a role in the healed results.

  • At this time we are focused on black and grey only. Please reach out to your artist directly if you have any questions regarding design options.

  • Clients must be 18 years or older at the time of their appointment. Due to our insurance policy, we do not offer services to clients under the age of 18 even with parental consent.

  • We will provide all of the following information to you before leaving your appointment, but clients are always welcome to reach out with questions or concerns prior to their appointment.

    • Gently remove second skin bandage 1-3 days after appointment

    • Wash with warm water and unscented, antibacterial soap

    • Apply a thin layer of moisturizing balm twice daily

    • Do not scratch or pick during the healing process

    • Call your doctor if the area remains red and swollen for more than 48 hours or feels warm to the touch
